Creation story
Thirst for adventure
Despite his progress as a director of sales in New York City, Vishen Lakhiani is inspired to do more with his life. Feeling a growing curiosity to start his own venture, he sets the goal to make enough money online to pay for his daily Starbucks habit. By his third month he was making up to $4.50 per day and had a taste for much more!

The burden of business

By 2004, Vishen’s business experiment has grown from earning him a Venti Starbucks each day to bringing in enough revenue to support a small team, lease an office and be a full time entrepreneur. Although revenues continue to grow the business feels burdensome.  He feels exhausted and the joy he once had is being deflated by the day.

The revelation

After attending a mindset seminar, Vishen and his team realize the dramatic influence mindset has on shaping business culture and performance. By applying the seminar trainings, what used to feel like frustration begins to turn into fun. What was once scarcity shifts to abundance. What was once struggle shifts to satisfaction. Vishen recognizes that happiness and vision can play in the same sandbox and, in fact, together they create a “flow state” that is far more powerful than business as usual.

Happiness = productivity

Recognizing that happiness is the new productivity, Mindvalley takes a stand to reinvent the traditional workplace and instead build a culture based on fun, flow, fulfillment and fairness.  Success begins to compound and the company grows by 400% within two years. Their dynamic, fun and purpose-driven work culture helps them attract applications from all over the world, eventually expanding their staff to include employees from over 30 different countries.

Vishen Team Retreat
Growing up

Bootstrapping without investment or outside financing, Vishen and his diverse team focus on digital product marketing as their means for generating growth revenue. Their first product, The Silva Method, a meditation program created by José Silva, hits big and leads the way for a series of successful product launches that generate millions of dollars in revenue and an engaged community of hundreds of thousands of people from around the world.

Spreading awesomeness

During a fun-filled team retreat on a tropical island in south east Asia, the idea is born to spread their creative, collaborative and purely awesome retreat model with friends and influencers beyond the Mindvalley team. Awesomeness Fest is birthed—a transformational event to bring together people who are driven to change the world. First held in Costa Rica in 2010, Awesomeness expands year after year to cover  tropical destinations such as Hawaii, the Dominican Republic, Bali, and Mexico.  In addition to creating a unique bonding and learning experience for a curated list of attendees,  100% of the proceeds are donated to high impact causes.

Creating the world’s best workplace

Mindvalley’s continued commitment to create the world’s best workplace leads to international recognition, being featured at TEDx in the U.A.E., Inc. Magazine in the USA and earning WorldBlue’s certification as one of the Most Democratic Workplaces. Mindvalley is also a Great Place to Work® certified company

Sharing their secret sauce

Rather than keep their secrets to themselves, Mindvalley recognizes that the best path to meet their mission of impacting 1 billion lives is to share their best practices—for free—and help other like-minded businesses duplicate their model. The initiative is called Mindvalley Insights and, as seen in the attached video, nothing is held back from being shared.

As the digital publishing industry evolves, Mindvalley recognizes the need to pivot into the new frontier—mobile apps! The necessity to create a new business model, hire new talent, and a build a new marketing strategy tests the company’s ability to innovate rapidly. The result: Their first App, Omvana, a collection of customizable meditations, relaxation audios and personal growth tracks, hits the #1 spot in Health & Fitness in 30+ countries!

Creating a renaissance

Launched in 2012, Project Renaissance is an experimental campaign to ‘hack’ the entrepreneurial and social DNA of a city to unleash the full potential of its inhabitants – starting with Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where we support some 20 different communities designed to gather the nation’s top talents to collaborate, with the goal of turning Kuala Lumpur into one of the top startup hubs in the next ten years.

Revolutionizing education

After years of publishing information-based products, exploring new ideas, and going through challenging pivots, the Mindvalley team makes a bold move to pool their publishing strengths, network of influential authors, and passion for learning to fill a major gap in today’s education system.

Imagine an education system that teaches you how to have healthier relationships, be a better lover, a better parent, live healthier, and not just live a “successful” life, but a deeply meaningful and fulfilled life. This was their inspiration. The video attached shows how they’re doing it.

2014 – Changing the game

GameChangers 500 recognizes Mindvalley as one of the world’s top 500 GameChangers in business, honoring their purpose-driven DNA and commitment to redefine the rules of business around fun, fulfillment and fairness to all life.

Theory of change
A Theory of Change is a method of describing how an organization’s intended impact will be realized; it’s the cause-and-effect logic for how an organization works backwards from its mission to create products, services and other initiatives that create the desired positive impact they intend. A Theory of Change is a common best practice used by Non-profits that is now being widely used by For-profit organizations that define themselves as purpose-first rather than profit-first. The Theory of Change includes metrics the organizations uses to to measure their success and monitor their progress towards creating their intended impact.

Intended impact
the positive impact we intend to create

Mindvalley builds companies that revolutionize education, through mediums that range from digital publishing, online learning, mobile and web apps, content, events and more.
We stand for ideas that allow people to unleash their full potential and live healthier and happier lives through innovation in learning for all ages.
Our Strategy
to create the impact we intend
  • Culture Hacking
Culture hacking is the art of bringing together technology and education to create new models to advance culture and influence the daily behaviors of individuals so they adopt practices that elevate their lives. Our “Culture Hacking” approach is inspired by the great scientist and awesome futurist Buckminster Fuller, who famously said: “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
  • Awesomeness Fest
An experiential event that brings together people who are driven to change the world – entrepreneurs, authors, technophiles, mavericks, artists and visionaries alike. Awesomeness Fest gives them a place to form deep connections, experience profound mindset shifts, have breakthrough ideas, enjoy incredible adventures, and give back to causes they care about.
  • Courses and Apps that Elevate Human Potential
We offer online courses and mobile apps on topics such as mindfulness, personal growth, and alternative health lifestyles. We only produce courses and apps that are meant to improve lives through positive, mindful and healthy techniques. • Building Happy Workplaces
Building a work place that cultivates happiness has been a core focus of Mindvalley since our early days. We've invested significant time and money to build the word's best workplace, and have learned a lot as we've scaled to a family of 130 individuals from over 30 different countries. We believe a great workplace embraces positivity, celebration, gratitude, cultures, travel, productivity, equality and diversity. Even though we've received international recognition and won awards for our workplace, we're constantly innovating and improving. To support other businesses in creating happy workplaces, we freely share our best practices through MindvalleyInsights.com

Interview tips:
Look at an interview as a mutual exchange of information. Approach it with a positive attitude, relax, and enjoy your Mindvalley experience. Based on our observations, we have put together some know-hows.

1. Study Us
Browse our website, check out our Facebook, find out more about our products, get some Insights. Be able to articulate what we do, who we are, what is our mission and values, and why you want to be a part of our team. Attend our events. Be social.

2. Explore the culture
Learn what it means that happiness is the new productivity. By getting to know us better, you can determine if our culture resonates with you. We value innovation, collaboration and growth.

3. Know what you want
Read the job description carefully to figure out how well you align to the role. Focus on what you can bring to the table, what makes your brain bubbling with enthusiasm and how that aligns with our mission.

4. Show the real you
We want to know what is not present in your resume. Share your valuable experiences and insights, summarize your achievements and charm us with your stories.

5. Dare us
Go ahead and quiz the interviewer with one sharp question after the other. It’s one of the best ways to establish a connection and for us to learn how serious you are about pursuing a career with us. Make us think.

6. Listen
Listening is one of the best ways to build the rapport and is as important as answering the questions. If you’re not paying attention, even if you know the right answer, you might give just a passable one.

7. Show us you’re on it
Be ready to enthusiastically express your pride and passions – this is more meaningful than any experience you’ve had. What are the new traits, technologies or trends that make you tick?

Work, we believe, needs to be fun, educational and something that makes you so excited that you jump out of bed each morning. So screw the traditional 9-to-5 job. Instead, get paid to play, create, learn and grow. It’s like being a child again. But with a salary.
Over the last few years we’ve won awards and accolades for creating one of the most unique and desirable work cultures in the world.
